Over 31 million people wear contact lenses in the United
States. Berris Optical has independent Doctors of
Optometry available to discuss the contact lens options
available. We fit all types of contacts and can fit those
who have been told that they cannot wear contacts. There
are many different types and brands of contacts on the
market today. There are disposable contacts, contacts
that can change or enhance your eye color, contacts for
astigmatism, contacts with bifocals, hard (rigid gas
permeable) and soft contacts, contacts that you can sleep
in and many other options.

Contact lenses are prescription medical devices that are
worn on the eye. In order to prescribe contacts, our
Doctors of Optometry must evaluate the health of the eye,
determine the proper contact lens prescription based on
each patient's glasses prescription, eye health and
curvature and vision needs. Examining the contact on the
eye ensures the proper fit for each individual patient. A
contact lens evaluation is a separate part of a
comprehensive eye examination and requires additional
testing that patients who don't wear contacts do not
require. Contact lens evaluation and fittings have
different levels of difficulty and cost depending on the
contact lenses needed.

How old is "old enough" for contacts? That would
depend on the maturity and responsibility level of the
patient. There are many children who are able and
responsible enough to wear contacts. Parents are able to
discuss with our Doctors of Optometry the maturity of
their children to see if contacts are an option.
